Holiday Closing - Saturday, July 4
Dormont Public Library will be closed all day on Saturday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day. We will reopen at 9 AM on Monday, July 6.
The outside drop box will be open over the weekend, but no returns will be processed until we re-open. To avoid fines, please return or renew your items ahead of time.
Even More Extended Hours
Beginning on July 1, Dormont Public Library's summer hours will be extended even more! In addition to opening at 9 AM on Monday mornings, we will also be open at 9 AM on Friday mornings.
Summer Reading Program - Through August 1
Our 2009 Summer Reading Program for kids and teens is now underway. We encourage all young readers to sign up any time between now and August 1. Each book read during the summer earns a chance at prizes.
We're also offering a summer reading program for adult readers. This year's theme is Local Authors; we encourage you to read five books by local authors, but you can read any author or genre you like. You can sign up at the front desk.
Special programs and presentations will be held throughout the summer. Check out the complete schedule.
Flash Drives and Printing Supplies Now Available In The Lab
For your convenience, the computer lab now sells 1GB USB flash drives for $5.00, and 100% cotton resume paper and envelopes for 25¢.
Dormont Artists and Writers Group
The Dormont Artists and Writers' Group returns! Meetings will be held in the Keith Room on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Membership is open to creative people ages 10 and up, but children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Emerging and experienced writers and artists are invited to exchange ideas, share work, and learn from each other at this informal workshop. Most genres of work are welcome at group meetings, but due to the intergenerational nature of the program, participants are requested to keep their work at a "G rating". Call the library at 412-531-8754 for more information.
Yoga Classes Now Available on Saturdays
Due to the popularity of our Tuesday evening yoga classes, the Friends of Human Race Yoga are now offering a second class to be held on Saturdays at 1:00 PM.
Please wear comfortable athletic clothes and bring your own water, towel, and yoga mat. This is a donation-supported program; please pay what you can.
Ongoing Book Sale
Our Ongoing Book Sale shelf is located on the first floor, next to the children's section. You'll find hardcover and softcover books for bargain prices, and all proceeds support Dormont Public Library's community services and programs. New titles are added weekly.
Summer 50/50 Raffle
Dormont Library's Summer 50/50 Raffle runs through September 30. Tickets are $1.00 and may be purchased at the front desk. The raffle winner will be announced on September 30. Proceeds benefit the library. More drawings will be held in the fall, winter, and spring—don't miss them!
Reading History and Wish Lists
Reading History and Wish Lists are now available from your online library card account. Now you can track the items you've checked out in the past, or save books and media that you'd like to get in the future.
If you haven't yet tried the online catalog, now is a great time to start. Just click "Catalog" or use the search box at the top of the page, and you can search for and request materials from any county library.
First-time catalog users will need to create a PIN; see the bookmarks placed next to every lab computer for more details, or see the online instructions. Ask computer lab staff if you need help creating a PIN.
Warning for Library Internet Users
An increasing number of websites are displaying advertisements for "antivirus" or "security scan" products which masquerade as warnings that viruses, spyware, or Trojan horse programs have been detected on the computers. These warnings are fake! Do not click on them! Just close the window and ignore any warnings. The library lab computers are already protected by a commercial antivirus program, which will automatically attempt to quarantine or remove malicious software. If you are prompted by any web page to install software, click the 'Cancel' or 'Don't Run' buttons and close the browser window which prompted the installation.

Patrons who have overdue fees of $2.00 or more can now pay their fines online using a Visa, MasterCard, or Discover Card.
