Summer Reading Program 2008: Catch the Reading Bug @ Your Library Guidelines: Registration begins on Saturday, June 7th. Registration closes on Saturday, June 28th.  You may register after June 28th but you will not be guaranteed a t-shrit. The program concludes on Saturday, July 26th.  All book logs must be checked-in by this time. No t-shirts will be given out before Tuesday, July 1st. Requirements: There are three levels of reading groups this year: Read-To-Me Readers, Beginning Readers and Independent Readers.  Each child will be given a reading log to keep track of titles read.  Please check in your book lists on an ongoing basis. Read-To-Me Readers (children ages 0-5 and children entering Kindergarten): 20 books must be read or listened to by each child.  Upon completion, a t-shirt will be given, while supplies last.  One raffle ticket for a grand prize will be given for each additional 20 books read or read to the child. Beginning Readers (children entering 1st and 2nd grade): 15 books must be read or listened to by each child.  Upon completion, a t-shirt will be given, while supplies last.  One raffle ticket for a grand prize will be given for each additional 15 books read or read to the child. Independent Readers (children entering 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade): 10 books must be read by each child.  Upon completion, a t-shirt will be given, while supplies last.  One raffle ticket will be given for a grand prize for each additional 10 books read. Catch the Party Bug Celebration Join us for food, fun and entertainment when we salute our reading stars on Saturday, August 23rd from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  Raffle drawings will be announced during the party.  All children & their families who have completed the required minimum number of books are invited.  More details to follow... Teddy Bear Picnic Date: Wednesday, August 6th          Time: 11:00 am Bring your favorite teddy bear to this program of stories, skits and songs.   Design-A-Bug Date: Wednesday, June 25th          Time: 11:00 am Design your own creepy crawlers.  Use various multi-media supplies to take home your own sculpture.  For ages 4 and up.   Anansi Stories Date: Wednesday, July 30th          Time: 6:30 pm Join us for engaging and interactive stories and meet Anansi the puppet too!  Hear favorite trickster tales from Africa and the Caribbean!  For ages 4 and up.   Stories With Puppets and Guitar By Betsy and Pals Date: Thursday, June 19th          Time: 11:00 am Join puppeteer Betsy from the Children's Museum of pIttsburgh for participatory stories from around the world.  For ages 3 thru 7.   Pizzicato Puppets Date: Thursday, July 10th          Time: 2:00 pm This program may be held at the Sharpsburg Branch Libary -- check back for details.  Join puppeteer Carolyn Smith for a special presentation of her original puppets.  A fun time for all ages.   The ABCs of Insects Date: Friday, July 18th          Time: 11:00 am This program is from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.  It is an introduction to insects, fact and fiction, legend and truth.  We will also observe live insects.  For ages 4 thru 7.   Don't Bug Me: Keeping Pesky Bullies Away! Date: Friday, August 8th          Time: 11:00 am The Bethel Park Public Library Youth Services will put on an interactive show featuring people and puppets.  For children in Kindergarten thru 2nd grade.   American Girl Party: Meet Kit Date: Thursday, June 12th          Time: 4:00 pm We'll discuss Kit, an American Girl, and dlearn about the Great Depression.  For readers of the American Girl series.   Pet Parade Date: Saturday, June 14th          Time: 11:00 am Fun for the whole family.  Pets must be on a leash at all times!  For all ages.  Rain date will be Saturday, June 28th.   Monday Night Movies Dates: Monday, June 23rd & 30th;  Monday, July 7th & 14th Time: 6:30 pm Bring the family to watch your favorite classic storybooks brought to life.  Each night we will be featuring a different Scholastic Video Collection with up to 3 storybooks in animated form.     Pizza Picnics Date: Friday, June 27th and Friday, July 25th          Time: 12 noon We'll provide the pizza and you provide the discussion.  On June 27th, discuss your favorite step-up books.  On July 25th, we'll discuss your favorite chapter books.   Creepy Crawly Critters Date: Wednesday, July 23rd          Time: 6:30 pm We'll read our favorite stories about bugs and finish the program with a craft.  For ages 5 and up.
