Program Policy:

(Adopted February 20, 2007)

Moon Township Public Library strives to provide community programs that draw attention to and promote the resources of the library. Programs are an extension of the library' mission to "meet the educational, informational, technical, and recreational needs of the entire community."

General Guidelines

Library programs will be free and open to the public. The library reserves the right to apply optional charges for materials or books that participants will keep.

Library programs must be non-commercial in nature. Although a businessperson or other professional expert may present a program, the information should always be generic in nature. No solicitation of business is permitted.

The sale of products at a library program is not permitted. There are two exceptions:

  1. Because the library encourages reading, writing, and the appreciation of culture and because distribution channels for these materials are often lacking, writers, performers, and artists may sell their own works at the library following library programs.
  2. The Friends of Moon Township Public Library may sell items at library programs that they sponsor.

A decision to offer a particular program will be determined by each library department head based on community interest and need. The librarian must work within the constraints of the library's programming budget.

The library reserves the right to set age limits for children and teen programs. Attendance at other programs shall not be restricted because of age, gender, race, background, or beliefs.

Some programs may require advance registration. The following will apply to programs requiring registration:

  1. There will be no registration for programs prior to the announced registration date.
  2. Registration is conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Children's Programs

Programs offered for children are planned by library staff with expertise in offering programs for children and are designed to meet the needs and interests of a particular age group. It is in the best interests of the participating children to honor the specific age requirements of a program. If a child demonstrates that he/she is not developmentally ready, the parent may be asked to withdraw the child from the program.

Children's storytimes usually have a waiting list. If a registered individual misses 2 consecutive storytime sessions, they will forfeit their spot in the session and the next person on the waiting list will be notified.
