Policy Statement for Adult Programs
The Scott Township Library will present programs that are informational, educational, cultural and recreational to the citizens of Scott Township. These programs will often be presented in cooperation with other agencies and institutions as well as other public and private resources. The Scott Township Library and its Board of Trustees endorse and support the Library Bill of Rights and the American Library Association interpretation resulting in library initiated programs as a resource.
Programs will be planned to meet the interests and needs of community members and will represent the wide range of ideas and views contained in our materials collection. They will represent the library’s philosophy of free access to information. The ultimate responsibility for selection of library programs rests with the library director who operates within the framework of the policies determined by the Board of Trustees.
Most library-sponsored programs will be free. There may occasionally be a materials fee requested. However, when there is a fee for materials, this fee will be stated up front and should not exceed the actual material costs to the presenter. All classes will be open to the public. All materials used by a co-sponsoring body must be approved by the library before the scheduled program.
No individual or organization who presents a program at the library for public attendance is allowed to sell their product or services or collect names, address and phone numbers of attendees during their presentation or their time at the library. Exempt from this are authors or performers who come to speak about books they have authored, or perform songs they have written, or performed on video or audio. Before or after the presentation, the author, performer, or his/her representative may unobtrusively sell copies of published or recorded work. Presentation at the library of any specific idea, strategy, financial plan or investment does not constitute library endorsement. Organizations or business affiliation will be used by the library in our promotion of programs. This also does not constitute endorsement merely acknowledgment.
Policy Statement for Children's Programs
The Scott Township Library selects, plans, prepares and presents programs and events. These programs further library goals and are part of the established ongoing service of the library. Most programs and events, promoted or sponsored by the library are free of charge. There may occasionally be a materials fee requested by the library. However, when there is a fee for materials, this fee will be stated up front, and should not exceed actual costs. Programs may be designed for a specific age or grade level and attendance may be limited to a specifically described audience. (For example : 3 to 5-years-old.) Some programs may require registration. This is done in order to:
- 1. Not exceed the capacity of the rooms.
- 2. To ensure the audience matches the specifically described characteristics such as age or grade level.
- 3. To allow the presenter to make preparations for each individual attending.
If registration is required, it will be done on a first-come, first-served basis for the described audience. If programs are filled, we will make every effort to include those on waiting lists or to expand programs to accommodate demand. Programs may be presented off-sit or by request from groups or area schools. These programs are selected and presented by volunteers and professional staff, but outside speakers or presenters may be invited to provide programming sponsored by the library. Arrangements are made for these programs on a first-come, first-served basis. Adopted February 19, 2001
